How to pick up a dropped k2tog

What happens when you either forget the k2tog or drop a stitch and have the stitch drop through a k2tog? Disaster! Do you unravel three or more stitches to start decreasing again? Or do you do what I do, that is take a crochet hook and save the k2tog right there in the middle of the row?
