The foundations will always be important in my book and the very first stitch you make as you cast on is no exception. This method of creating a slipknot is secure and adjustable. Once placed on your needle this way you can tighten or loosen the first stitch after a couple of rows to even out the stitches.
I used to find it confusing to play with the yarn in my fingers and try to work out how to put the resulting loop on my needle, this way is fool-proof. Check it out for yourself and let me know how you get on in the comments below.
