Two joyful knits full of colour, texture, and stash-friendly creativity.
This playful hat and scarf set is perfect for chilly days, vibrant yarns, and knitters who love a quick, satisfying project. Designed for chunky yarns and ideal for using up those eye-catching leftover balls, these patterns bring warmth, rhythm, and fun to your needles.
The Story Behind the Hat
It all began with two forgotten balls of yarn. Inspired by the much-loved tassel hat from the Hat Knitting Bootcamp, and encouraged by the children who adored it too, I wanted to design something that kept the same playful spirit—with a little more colour.
The zig-zag pattern arrived like a flash of inspiration. A simple fair isle technique turned the contrast yarn into a bold feature, echoed in the cheerful tassel that finishes the hat beautifully.
Then Came the Scarf
Of course, the hat needed a partner. A second act. A scarf or mitts? The scarf won. With the same bold zig-zag motif, this cosy knit uses a double-thickness structure to keep warmth in and winter winds out—ideal for children, teens, or adults who love a splash of colour.
