The ‘ply’ of a yarn is something that most knitters know exists, but what is it for?
The multiple strands twisted together are obviously there for a reason. I’m sure you notice how different yarns knit up with different results. Some might be more fluffy, but perhaps that’s just the different fibre. Some might be looser, but is that the thickness of the yarn or size of the needle.
Yarn ply can affect both these things and more. You’ll notice the differences, not only in the finished knit, but in how you hold the yarn to knit, once you dive a bit more into the reasons they’re there and what they achieve.
Today’s video will explain all you need to know and will help you select and sort your yarns more easily.
