Put some stitches on your needles and start knitting. It doesn’t matter whether you’re following anyone else’s rules, or following a ‘pattern’.
Stitches on needles = knitting!
Yes, just start practicing your knit stitch and you’ll find a purpose for what you create. You could end up with bookmarks, coasters (count the number of stitches on your needle and how many rows you knit, and knit a set of matching coasters!)
Knit yourself a simple accessory
How about a coin purse, a smartphone case, or a mini scarf, like this one:

And remember it’s by practicing with these smaller knits that you’ll be better able to knit an evenly tensioned larger item sooner. You’ll be so proud of yourself!
